At least 16 lives perished and more than 40 were wounded when attackers opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian authorities have called a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, authorities have confirmed the death toll stands at 16, which includes one of the suspected attackers. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were transported to the hospital.
The victims have not yet been officially identified, but police believe their ages are from 10 and 87 years old.

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father of five children, he was the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends remembered him as âlively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help peopleâ.
âHow is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?â a family member remarked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She described the events before the shooting, stating they were standing when the shooting started. âHe shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,â she said.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
âThis cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must combat,â the statement read.
A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Childrenâs Hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, as per reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still under care, with a number in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the incident as an âutter carnage,â but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a âmiracleâ he survived.
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he listened to âdozens and dozensâ of gunshots.
âI thought it was something less lethal, but itâs gone into my own skin and into my leg,â he said. âI sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. Iâm ok.â
