Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have taken place in their memory.
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Attendees came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in the capital.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
