The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
