The co-founders behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, disclosed how he plans to independently develop the controversial product within an individual series showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and Unilever, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Support

The entrepreneur stated via social media how he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder commented from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first created in 2016 for endorsing ex- political contender Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts and Future Plans

The founder indicated that he will develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that the company was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years with the organization, citing worries that the company's autonomy had been compromised after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that it can achieve the social mission, the principles which established its foundation while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
