Lindsey Vonn Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
