Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
